On January 26, 2026, project team members and honorable guest from different institutes in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, and abroad gathered together on the campus of HKUST (Clear Water Bay) to discuss details of the Theme-based Research Scheme project plan and exchange ideas , marking the official commencement of this five-year project.
In the morning, Prof. Cheng Tim, our Vice-President for Research and Development, gave a warm welcome to the attendees, emphasizing the support from the administration level of HKUST. Later, Mr. Fong Kin Wa, the assistant director of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, gave a speech on the importance of university-government collaboration in the field of environmental protection. And Prof. Yu Jianzhen, leader of this project, lectured on the brief overview and panorama.
Experienced experts in constructing advanced air quality monitoring networks shared their views and tips, through presentations of Prof. Guy Brasseur, Prof. Andre Prevot, Prof. Sally Ng, Prof. Hu Min, Prof. Zheng Mei, and Prof. Wang Zifa. In the afternoon, more collaborators talked in length about their respective research work.
